Student Health Insurance Summary

Information on HTH WORLDWIDE for students

This document summarizes information regarding your study abroad student insurance coverage. It is not intended to be inclusive but to supplement the certificate of insurance (available from the Office of Study Abroad upon request). Please read over all information carefully to obtain full understanding of your coverage.

  • As a participant in an MSU sponsored study abroad program you are provided with covered through this policy from the official arrival date of the program until three days after the last day of the program.
  • You are only covered during these program dates while you are abroad. This policy does not cover you in the United States.
  • If you are covered by another insurance policy, please carry the name and policy number of the coverage with you while you are abroad.
  • There is a $50 deductible for each medical condition or injury. One sickness or injury is defined as one with the same or related cause, including any complications. Therefore, if you visit a clinic for a chest cold one week and then visit the same clinic the following week for a sprained ankle, you will be charged up to $50 for each incident.

MEDICAL EMERGENCIES

In the event of a medical emergency, students should go immediately to the nearest physician or hospital and then contact HTH's emergency line for additional assistance such as inpatient direct billing, care management or other types of assistance.

INPATIENT SERVICES

HTH Worldwide has is able to make arrangements for direct billing at nearly 500 facilities around the world. Requests for direct billing should be made in advance of the scheduled hospital admission through HTH Global Health Services. You may be responsible for paying your deductible of $50.00 USD directly to the hospital, prior to discharge.

OUTPATIENT APPOINTMENT SCHEDULING

HTH Worldwide is contracted with more than 3,600 carefully selected doctors, dentists and behavioral health practitioners in 160 countries around the world. MSU study abroad participants can search by location and review the professional background of HTH contracted physicians, choosing the one most appropriate to treat his or her medical condition. Requests for appointments can be made directly to the physician, or can be coordinated through HTH Global Health and Safety.  Requests for direct billing should be made in advance of the scheduled appointment through HTH Global Health Services, so that an HTH Guarantee of Payment can be issued. You may be responsible for paying your deductible of $50.00 USD to the physician at the time of service.

HTH International Claims

Claims may be submitted for prescriptions, and outpatient and/or inpatient services not invoiced directly to HTH.  Please save all of your receipts and have your physician complete an International Claim Form is provided in your orientation packet. Claim forms are also available online. For general claim inquiries, e.g., whether something is covered, or for the status of claims submitted, contact HTH Worldwide Insurance Services, Inc. at the telephone number/email address listed below. LOST INSURANCE IDENTIFICATION CARDS

Since HTH provides coverage based on participant lists provided by the Office of Study Abroad, there is no reason to be alarmed if you lose your card. If you have a medical need, you can contact HTH to confirm insurance eligibility or to request a replacement card. You may also re-print your own ID card online.
